MBUSD Scores Success at Odyssey of the Mind World Finals!

MBUSD qualified 4 teams to represent SoCal in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in May at Michigan State University. It was the largest tournament to date with 899 teams attending from 20 countries and 40 states. Competitors qualify by placing 1st or 2nd for their problem division in their State or Country Championship Tournaments, so the caliber of teams attending World Finals was very high (China's Country Championship Tournament alone hosted over 600 teams).
All four MBUSD teams placed within the top half of their respective fields! In this year's most popular and fiercely contested problem, PACIFIC’s "Classics" team placed 27th in their field of 73 world-class competitors. PENNEKAMP’s "Structure" team broke into their top 20 with an awesome 16th place finish.
MBMS's "Technical" team also cracked their top 20 with an amazing 13th place finish. Team: Miles McPhee, Shawn Oh, Allison Custer, Lily Stern, Maddie Johnson; Coach: Andrea Custer

MBMS's "Structure" team had a stunning 2nd place finish. They also won a Ranatra Fusca award for outstanding creativity and outside-of-the-box thinking. One of the highest honors a team can receive, only 6 Ranatras were awarded this year at World Finals (across all problems and divisions). Team: Brian Chiu, Andrew Fan, Ashlyn Green, Luke Green, Ella Kim, Abigail Seo; Coach: Brian Fan
Official results can be seen here.
Congratulations to all of the teams that participated in Odyssey of the Mind this year!
