Physical Education classes at Manhattan Beach Middle School are designed to teach students the benefits of lifelong fitness. Students will leave their class with the understanding of how their health and fitness relate to the choices they make on a daily basis. P.E. classes explore and explain physical concepts such as flexibility, muscular strength and endurance and aerobic activity. P.E. classes also emphasize and encourage socialization, cooperation, positivity and improvement. Classes also enforce skill building and knowledge gained in each activity. P.E. Activities may include (but not limited to): badminton, table tennis, basketball, street hockey, flag football, soccer, flag/field activities, volleyball, paddle tennis, pickle ball, swimming, water polo (8th grade) and physical fitness testing (7th grade). Common assessment activities for all grades include a cardio day once per week and a mile run once per trimester. Every student will be assigned their own personal locker. Uniforms and proper athletic shoes are required. Class expectations will be reviewed at the beginning of the year.
Not all students are athletes, but all students can learn to be fit for life. Physical Education creates well rounded, healthy individuals through a variety of movement and activities. Studies have shown that a healthy body equals a healthy mind. The same endorphins that make an individual feel better also helps with concentration and mental sharpness.
