2024 State Testing

State Testing at MBMS - 2024

The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), also referred to as State Testing, will take place at MBMS this year on May 13–May 24. The English and Math tests will be administered to students in 6th–8th grade. The California Science Test (CAST) will be taken by 8th grade students only. The assessments provide information that can be used to determine how well students are achieving on state standards. This, in turn, helps us to identify strengths and areas for growth in our educational programs. Additionally, State Testing is a factor in determining our placement in state and national ranking systems, potentially earning our school and district positive recognitions. Thank you for your support!

Other information related to the testing logistics:
  • Zero period PE will be canceled the week of May 13–May 17.
  • Students will test with their 1st period class. Students who do not have a 1st period class at MBMS will be assigned a testing room as the dates approach. Notifications regarding this will be sent via email.
  • Students who have the separate setting accommodation in their IEP will be assigned a testing location as the date approaches. They will receive this information by email and from their case carrier directly.
Please help your child plan ahead for the following State Testing technology requirements:
  1. The test can only be taken on Chromebooks. Macbooks and other devices are not compatible. If your child has been bringing a device other than a Chromebook to school, please help them get in the habit of bringing their Chromebook to school instead.
  2. Chromebooks need to be fully charged. Now is a good time for students to get in the routine of charging their Chromebook nightly.
  3. Students need to bring wired headphones for the test. Wired headphones are required because wireless headphones are not compatible with the secure test browser.
  4. Mice are optional if students prefer to use them over the touchpad.
  5. Unauthorized technology such as smartphones and smartwatches will not be allowed during the test. Students must turn off these devices and store them inside their backpacks for the full duration of the test.
Finally, California Education Code section 60615 allows a parent or guardian to submit a written request to exclude their child from any or all parts of state-mandated assessments. Please email me directly at [email protected] if you would like your child to opt out of CAASPP testing.
